Moving Timeline

It is important that you have a moving timeline so that you can stay organized and on track with your move. Home Move 101 can help make your move a success with this checklist that you’ll be able to follow through every stage of your move. The more closely you follow this list, the easier your move will be.

7 weeks: Decide on a date for your move

The very first thing that you will want to do is decide on a date for your move. In 2016, approximately 65% of all people who moved did so in the months of June, July or August. The summer is also the busiest time of year for moving companies, and it’s the most expensive for movers. You might want to schedule your move in the fall or winter.

6 Weeks: Get your Supplies

You will want to start getting your moving supplies 7 weeks before the actual move date. Home Move 101 can help you to get all of the supplies you need, including boxes, tape, bubble wrap and much more.

5 Weeks: Book the Moving Company

Make sure that you book the moving company you chose to hire five weeks before the move date. Home Moving 101 will be able to help you choose the right professionals for the job so you have nothing to worry about.

4 Weeks: Notify Utilities

Take the time to start schedule termination of utility services at your current residence and set up the utilities at your new home. If you are currently living in an apartment or rental property, notify your landlord.

3 Weeks: Make Arrangements for your Vehicle

If you have not done so already, you will need to have made arrangements for your vehicle at least three weeks before the move date. Make sure to have it looked at if you plan on driving it a long distance. If you are not able to drive your vehicle, Home Move 101 can help you get vehicle transportation services.

2 Weeks: Start Packing

At this point you will want to start packing up your belongings. At Home Move 101, we can help you get top quality packing services if you are interested in them. These services can save you a lot of time and effort with your move. Nearly 5 million people paid for professional packing services in 2016 alone.

1 Week: Confirm your Move

Make sure to confirm your move with the mover you have hired 1 week prior to the actual date. You can feel free to contact us for confirmation as well.

The Day of the Move

There are a few things you will want to do on the actual day of the move, such as make sure there is a clear path between your driveway and front door for the movers. You should also make sure everything you want to take with you is boxed up so you don’t leave anything behind.
